You Can Make a Difference

In Loving Memory
Desmon Rowley
10-21-98 to 09-20-10

Did you know that there is no cure for Crohn's and Colitis. Four out of eight medications they have found to help put Crohn's and colitis in remission, have been known to cause cancer.Desmon was one of many Crohn's patients that have been diagnosised with cancer after taking medications to put her in remission for Crohn's.

It is estimated that as many as 1.4 million Americans have IBD -- with that number evenly split between Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Males and females appear to be affected equally. Crohn's disease may occur in people of all ages, but it is primarily a disease of adolescents and young adults, affecting mainly those between 15 and 35. However, Crohn's disease can also occur in people who are 70 or older and in young children as well. In fact, 10 percent of those affected -- or an estimated 140,000 -- are youngsters under the age of 18

Me, my sister, and 4 friends will be running 204 miles at the Ragnar Relay Del Sol race, Feb 25th and 26th, 2011. We will each be running at least 30 miles, some almost 40 miles. We are taking on this challenge for Desmon and McCoy Rowley, and all those who are suffereing with Crohn's Disease or Colitis. We will be raising money for the TeamDcoy foundation. The foundation is dedicated to finding a cure and raising awareness for Chron's and Colitis. A portion of our funds also go to assisting the Immune Compromised Services to insure quality care to children with childhood diseases. Any size pledge is appreciated. Your pledge can make a difference. Please check out our Website www.teamdcoy.com

Del Sol Ultra 2011

Hey TeamDCoy are we ready to kick some butt? So excited for this new challenge. When I first decided to take on this challenge my goal was to just finish, but after watching my sweet niece pass away I decided I am running this for her! That means I will work my butt off and do my absolute best. All my training is for her and all those other patients suffering from Crohn's. Although Leukemia utimately took her life, Crohn's took a tole on her body. She was slowly wasting away before Leukemia. I strongly believe Leukimia was a secondary diagnosis as do many of her physicians. Meaning if there was no Crhon's there would be no Leukimia. I feel I owe it to Des and McCoy to help find a cure for this horrible disease. In honor of my sweet angel in heaven I promise everyday to be the best I can be in every aspect, including my running.

Here are the leg assignments:
Runner 1 - Stephanie 13.8m + 11.4m + 12.3m = 37.5miles
Runner 2 - Sarah 13.0m + 11.8m + 10.4m = 35.2miles
Runner 3 - Nikki 14.1m + 13.1m + 10.4m = 37.6miles
Runner 4 - Shawna 12.7m + 9.0m + 7.1m = 28.8miles
Runner 5 - Marnie 15.7m + 7.7m + 9.0m = 32.4miles
Runner 6 - Sexy Legs Nelson 10.9m + 7.1m + 8.8m = 26.8miles

I thought breaking down each leg might help with training. Hope you guys are as excited as I am to take on this challenge. Remember everyone has their own goals. Everyones best is different. So lets go out and have a BLAST! Live each day as your last! Love to live and live to laugh that's what Desmon taught me.
